Our science is costly, especially because we care so deeply about doing great work with local communities, in the field, and sharing our results with communities in their native languages, or through engaging methods (photography, film, children’s books, policy briefs, etc). Most of these activities cannot be charged to federal grants, and we depend on unrestricted funding, often from private donations, to do our work.
